ART! Gotta love it!

What's the difference between Thunder Bay and yogurt?
Yogurt has a culture!!
So here's my cure for that... my own art gallery. Right now it only features my own work as well as a few things from friends of mine...

Yay for the Lakehead University art department, located in the heart of wonderful Thunder Bay! Being a blue-collar town, art does not really get much attention here, though we do have a small and close-knit art community. This year some of our students took a trip to New York City... i am jealous, i didn't go due to lack of funds *pout* (plus, i should be saving to go to scotland again!!) But school is out for the year, thank god... so i don't really feel like updating my art department commentary right now! As for this photo, it is my friend and classmate Jen Clark, working on a painting of my friend Terri. I recruited her for the modelling assignment... sorry our painting class was at 9am Terri! Forgive me?

A website you MUST see:
Four Directions Pottery
Last year i took some pottery lessons from Mike Peters. he does beautiful work, check it out!

Feature Art: the photographs of Jen Xamin

Jen has been a friend of mine since our Grade 10 art class together. We got our artistic start drawing pictures of owls wearing crowns and copies of MC Escher art *shudder*. Later we took photography class together, and while i gained little from the experience besides the knowledge that cheezies shouldn't come out one's nose, it appears Jen had found her future... she lives in Ottawa now, finished college. Here are some of her photos (click to enlarge them):

And here's some of my own work...

I prefer people as my subject... love doing portraits if i can find people willing to sit for them (which is often a difficult task). But most of my portrait examples have been given away or (when i am VERY lucky) sold... My lazy nature has prevented me from taking photos of paintings and large-scale drawings, so at the moment all examples of my work are limited to those that would fit in my scanner *grin* But there is my favourite collage and some drawings here, and whatever else i have scanned since, so i think these are good pieces anyhow. Check em out, i hope you like at least ONE!

Drawings...

Things done with a brush...

The first painting is a study I did inspired by Roy Thomas, a native artist in Thunder Bay... the second is a five minute ink sketch from figure drawing class this year, and lastly is a bad photo of one of my paintings, it is of Carmen, a Mexican dancer who came to dance in our painting studio.

Degas Studies, and my fav collage...

I am a huge fan of Edgar Degas, and it probably shows. the ballerina pics here are studies of my favourite Degas work. the black and white is an ink drawing, the blue work a linocut. And last but not least, a collage done with scrap paper and scissors that i am very fond of.

I'm still working on this site, expect it to improve in the near future.

BTW: the background on this page was created from one of Jen X's photos... did you guess?
